14 th of June 2010 - River Orwell-River Crouch |
Crew : | Andy and Helen | |
Destinations : | Cliff Reach, Fambridge. | |
Distance : | 35 miles |
After another 0600 alarm call we headed down the river to catch the tide to the River Crouch. We were able to sail, but only made 4 knots. However with the tide we made a further 2 knots so had a leisurely sail. Once we turned the corner Andy was able to play with some of the new halyards and we sailed with the genoa out on the spinnaker pole and a preventer on the main to prevent any sudden gybes as we sailed past the wind farm off Clacton. As the wind slowly decreased, Helen decided it was time Andy practised some hunting and gathering and suggested he get out the fishing rod. Needless to say nothing bit even though we followed closely behind a fishing boat at one point. We gave up and the engine was started so we made over 8 knots up the river to beyond Burnham. We found a nice anchorage in sight of Fambridge marina.
