WICK HARBOUR

Another 6am alarm call saw us leaving about 0700am. We were waved off by the crew of Tortuga, who were heading to Peterhead the following day. The wind was on our nose, which we expected, so we motorsailed again. The sun continued to shine for most of the trip, but the sea was quite muddled for a while. We had a good view of 4 oil rigs in the middle of Moray Firth.

OIL RIGS MORAY FIRTH

Eventually Andy thought it would be more comfortable to sail so we headed south east on starboard tack. We were making very little headway toward our way point to the south west and we had little protection from the swell. When we tacked we found we were much more comfortable and heading in a more useful direction. Eventually the seas started to settle as we got further into the Moray Firth and we motor sailed toward Inverness. We saw a few bottle nosed dolphins, but none were in the mood for playing.

KESSOCK BRIDGE

As we passed under the Kessock Bridge we felt we were home at last after a tiring day. This was made very welcome by two bottle nosed dolphins playing around us and directing us into the marina. I found out later that they are a mother and her baby called Charlie and they have been hanging out there for the last 4 years. We found a berth on the visitors pontoon and celebrated our arrival with a beer.
