Wednesday 18 th June
Once again the tide dictated an early start, 0550 today.
Once out of the harbour we were able to run under genoa and mizzen for a few hours but by 9am the wind had dropped and we fired up the engine.
After lunch the wind obligingly picked up again and we were able to sail for the last few hours to Dieppe, where the harbour master directed us into a berth with just enough space next to a large metal Dutch motor yacht.
The owner of the motor yacht didn't seem happy to have a boat next to him. He told us that there had been a lot of swell in the harbour the previous evening and was worried that we'd damage the new paintwork on his topsides (though he didn't seem concerned about his boat doing any damage to us). So we rigged all of our spare fenders, including for the first time our two large inflatable fenders, between us and them, before heading off into town for something to eat.
The night was peaceful and in the morning the motor yacht had gone.
Thursday 19 th June
We decided to spend the day ashore, walking round to the sailor's church that overlooks the harbour entrance and enjoying the pavement cafe culture.
When we got back to the boat we found Brindabella had arrived and been berthed next to us, so we invited Simon and Fiona aboard for drinks.
