30 th of March to 1 st of April 2019 - Around Start Point |
Crew : | Helen and Andy | |
Destinations : | Dittisham. | |
Distance : | 37 miles |
We left our berth at 0920 heading out through the lock which was open and ready for us. We managed to sail for about 30 minutes until the wind died completely. It was a pretty tedious motor but the sun continued to shine. Once past Start Point, the wind picked up slightly and was coming from the north so we turned off the engine and sailed across the shallow water of Start Bay toward Dartmouth.
We headed up the river Dart enjoying the activity of Saturday boats trips and the steam railway sounding it's whistle. When we got up to Dittisham we found a mooring buoy and settled down for the night to watch the boats scurrying across the river between Dittisham and the Greenway pontoon and up and down the river from Totnes to Dartmouth. We spent the next two days exploring the countryside on either side of the river, eventually visiting Agatha Christie's home and garden.
