We set our alarm for 0500 and left the harbour at 0600 as soon as we could see. There was very little wind from the east and we had the tide with us so we motored into it. We weren't far of spring tides so we made fantastic time heading up through the Needles Channel at 10knots over the ground by 1100. We decided to motor close inshore to get a good view of the colourful cliffs in Alum Bay. It was a bit hazy so they weren't at their best but I had memories of swimming off the beach with a group of teenagers 20 years ago.
We found a buoy in the beautiful Newtown Creek where our nearest neighbours were a group of 6 seals. The National Trust harbour master came out for his dues and we saw a couple of other yachts but it was a lovely and quiet afternoon with just the sound of oystercatchers, curlews and blackheads gulls.
