We left the anchorage at 1130. We had intended to sail down to Ribeira and anchor near the entrance to the Ria de Arousa. However, the sun was shining and the seas seemed calm as we got near to Isla Salvora, so we decided to keep going to Muros. We probably should have paid more attention to the GRIBs, as the seas were pretty rough as we got out of the lee of the headland. Although the wind was pretty good and we made good time, it was a very uncomfortable sail and we were relieved to get into Muros
We found a sheltered spot to anchor at about 1900 not far from Muros town. We spent three nights at anchor recovering and hiding from the cold wind. We made a quick stop to pick up fuel at Portosin marina and then went alongside in the marina at Muros for a few nights. Here we were able to go walking, cycling and carry out a few chores. Pedro the marina manager was very friendly and the marina was very cheap so we were happy. We met some other British sailors and caught up with Lazy Otter again after having last seen him at Viana de Castelo. The sea along the coast at San Fransisco was the clearest and coldest I have swum in so far.
The wind was coming strongly from the north so we weren't really able to head north until the wind changed direction or at least reduced significantly. Eventually there was a weather window. We decided to go back and anchor in preparation for an early departure. The skipper of Lazy Otter was also needing to head north to be in Falmouth by the 14th June for the start of The Golden Globe race in which he was competing. He was also going to leave at first light so we agreed to look out for him leaving the marina the following morning.
