24 th to 25 th of August 2010 - Sailing again |
Crew : | Andy and Helen | |
Destinations : | Ardminish Bay, Gigha. | |
Distance : | 33 miles |
We left our berth by 0715 and headed down Loch Craignish. The wind was on our beam so we got all the sails up and had a lovely sail down the Sound of Jura with glorious sunshine. We soon saw Gigha and rounded it's north coast into Gigha Sound. There were clear buoys so we easily made our way between rocks into the centre of the Ardminish Bay, where we found a mooring buoy in 3 metres of water. Next to us were two Rustler 36s, a boat that we had considered buying. Unfortunately they were a bit snug for us. They were also designed by Holman and Pye the designer of our Oyster 435 so the bay was full of beautiful boats!

Gigha was made all the more lovely by the weather. On the second day we went for a walk around the Achamore Gardens, originally designed and planted by Mr Horlicks. It was full of native trees, tree ferns and summer flowers. It was a little overgrown as they only have 2 or 3 full time gardeners, but that made it more special. We visited the cafe for lunch on the way back and then debated whether to swim from the boat. We decided against this, instead going for a little explore around the bay in May the tender.
