We had enough rise of tide to leave at first light and as we were headed back to the UK we made an early start to take advantage, slipping our berth just before 6. Conditions were light so we motor sailed.
As we left the harbour we noticed a number of naval vessels anchored in a line a few miles off the coast, our track taking us between two of them. It felt like we were sneaking out of the country with our naughty red fuel.
By mid afternoon the wind had picked up and we were able to turn the engine off and sail the rest of the way to Harwich harbour, picking up a buoy off Levington at 21:30 before carrying on to Ipswich the following morning.
