Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

11 th of June 2011 - West coast of Skye

Crew : Helen and Andy
Destinations : Stein, Loch Bay.
Distance : 29 miles

Yet another 10 am start. We waved goodbye to Bolero II and motored down the loch. Around the same time as yesterday we had dolphins on our bow as they headed into Loch Bracadale. An hour or so later we saw a minke whale leisurely making its way in the opposite direction to us. We tried sailing very slowly at around 1-2 knots along the west coast cliffs of Skye. The sea was very calm, making it easy to spot porpoises and huge flocks of shearwater resting on the surface of the water, waiting to return to their nests under cover of darkness. They took off in massive swarms as we disturbed them.

We headed across Loch Bay to pick up a mooring buoy at Stein, where we had fish and chips in the pub.
