20 th of June 2018 - Bilbao again |
Crew : | Andy and Helen | |
Destinations : | Anchored between two marinas. | |
Distance : | 16 miles |
We decided we just wanted a short sail as there was very little wind so we would probably be motoring. We left the harbour at 1100 and managed to sail the few miles across the bay and into the river that leads up to Bilbao. This was, and still is, a very important port leading to what was once a very industrial city. However in the 1980s there was a huge amount of development as the industry came to an end. It was during this time that the Guggenheim was built and the city spruced up. The river is now clean and the city's primary industry is tourism. The entrance to the river was obviously still one of industry, however, our anchorage was in pleasant surroundings with a marina either side, some nice buildings and a large transporter bridge in the distance. By 1400 we were comfortably anchored watching the world go by.
