23 rd to 24 th of July 2010 - The Small Isles |
Crew : | Helen and Andy | |
Destinations : | Gallanach Bay, Muck. | |
Distance : | 23 miles |
We left our mooring today at 0800 and sailed very slowly toward Muck, passing Ardnamurchan Point, with beautiful blue skies and good views of Skye, Rum and Eigg. Andy caught 3 more mackerel for tea.
ARDNAMURCHAN POINT
We passed the east side of Muck, both rather nervous about entering Gallanach Bay with the rocks and our first transits of the trip.
GALLANACH BAY MUCK
As we headed toward the bay we met around four basking sharks circling close to our port bow. Neither of us were inclined to take pictures as we were worried about rocks. However, once safely anchored we watched them, and diving gannets, for most of the afternoon. The reef between them and us was the home to a colony of seals so we had lots of entertainment.
The next day we had intended to go ashore and climb the highest peak on Muck. Unfortunately it rained and rained and the cloud descended. Eventually we did venture onto the island and made for the tea shop at the south harbour, where we met another sailing couple and ate two cakes, tea and a beer. We got back to the boat before the fog totally obscured any land. A couple of boats joined us. One of which came in in thick fog which meant no transits. They clearly had great faith in their electronics!
