We decided to head to the mouth of Kenmore Bay and anchor tucked in at Garnish Bay just before Dursey Island. We left our mooring around 10am and had a cracking sail close hauled along the south of the bay. There was quite a lot of swell and as we entered our chosen bay, we both looked at each other realising that the island wouldn't provide much protection from the swell. There were also a number of semi submerged pot buoys and neither of us were comfortable anchoring there. We had a bit of a think and decided our only real option was to go back the way we had come and plan to go through Dursey sound the following day. Unfortunately the tidal streams run at up to 4 knots so it was essential to get them in our favour. We could have gone around Dursey Island, but it was getting late in the day and we didn't want to arrive anywhere after dark. We turned round and motor sailed back up the river with the wind and tide behind us. We chose a bay on the south side this time and motored around mussel farms to find a nice spot just south of Eskadawer Point in Kilmakilloge Harbour. The sun shone again on us, despite some rain and wind earlier in the day.
We set the alarm for 6am the following morning to ensure we would get through Dursey Sound before the tide turned and went against us. The alarm rudely awoke us but I refused to get out of bed. Andy didn't protest so we had a day sitting on the boat in sunshine doing our washing and some cleaning.
