Since we just had 20 miles to go, we left our berth at 0940. It was quite hazy but there was no fog. When we got to Peniche we entered the harbour to have a look at the pontoons. They looked quite busy and the harbour was also busy with boats moving in and out at speed creating quite a lot of wash. We decided to anchor just outside the harbour and put up with the slight swell. The beach was crowded with holiday makers, but once the sun set they disappeared and things quietened down. A couple of other yachts turned up so we didn't feel quite so alone.
The following day we weighed anchor at 0850. Visability was pretty poor again. As we passed Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of Europe, we couldn't see land at all. We headed around into Cascais harbour where the fog lifted enough for us to be able to see the anchorage. We had another slightly swelly night at anchor. We could see the fog behind the town and, although it had cleared briefly, it came down again in time to obscure the partial eclipse of the sun.
